Meena Datt

Meena has been admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in two common law jurisdictions, Fiji and New Zealand. She was first admitted to the High Court of New Zealand in 1997 and has been in practice since. Her main areas of interest are trade related aspects of Intellectual Property and fiduciary aspects of various legal relationships, the areas in which she pursued her Masters degree.

As a practising lawyer, Meena has an extensive, in depth knowledge of immigration law and the procedures of the Immigration New Zealand. Meena has represented many migrant clients from all walks of life before the various migration appeal bodies, the Minister of Immigration, Department of Labor and the Ombud’s office. She has also appeared as counsel for refugees from different countries before the Refugee Status Board and the Refugee Status Appeals Authority.

Prior to joining Berman & Burton, Meena practiced as a barrister sole and provided consultancy services to Hurakia Migration Limited, which has successfully represented many migrants.

Meena speaks several languages including English, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and has a working knowledge of other Asian languages. She is the Honorary Solicitor for the Cambodian Association (INC) Auckland.
